When I started this blog, writing about writing, I promised I would keep on top of it. I would post about the long list of topics I made to do with writing, indie publishing, reading, etc.
Whelp. In my defense, I've been busy working. I finished my second draft of Waiting for You. I've been beta reading several different works in different genres. Sadly, I am not working quite as fast as I hoped. In order to stay on schedule, I need to do my next set of revisions on Dance for You, finish all open betas, and do a final reread of And Then It Was You by March 1. And I HAVE to finish by March 1, because I need to start writing my Fourth of July novella on March 1, or it will be shelved until next summer. I do have a very extensive outline written, and I'm very familiar with the setting (which always helps), and the plan is for it to be 30k rather than 35k. BUT STILL. Last night, I was freaking out to my husband and he said, just move everything you're stressed about back by a month (A perk of creating your own deadlines). That's nice, but a Fourth of July book can't come out on July 20th. But, I know I can do it. Part of the reason I know I can is the amazing support system I've found among writers. Some are friends from college, some are new friends from twitter. March will be a crazy month, but then I'm taking off April from writing and concentrating on getting everything that will be published before August ready for publication (editing, formatting, covers) This weekend I'm heading to Las Vegas for my much younger sister's bachelorette party. I'm not a Vegas girl. I don't drink, I don't gamble, and going to a loud club is my personal brand of hell. But, it's what she wanted to do, so I will be boarding a plane to Sin City tomorrow. The silver lining is that I have two very long plane flights to get my mountain of work done. I'm also hoping everyone is hungover on Saturday and I can work and enjoy a walk in the 50 degree weather. Here's to smooth flights, no vomiting, and a productive weekend. I'm definitely the first person ever hoping for a productive weekend in Vegas. Love always, Lucy

Only You's second draft is done! And this time, it felt right. I like the tweaks I made to the characters, the overall plot change, and I had the chance to add some more cute stuff in, which is always a bonus as a romance novelist. Between now and March 1st, I'll be in a heavy edit mode. I need to do my beta edits for Dance for You, my editorial edits for Waiting for You, and my preliminary edits for Only You. It's a lot for 19 days, and I'm not sure I will quite finish it all, but I'm feeling hopeful.
Then, I'll spend March writing the first book in my next series, releasing And Then It Was You, and doing fun stuff for Dance for You, like cover art and final read throughs. Eek! On the reading front, I'm mostly doing beta reads BUT I started Tikka a Chance on Me and it's really cute. I got the recommendation via twitter one day when everyone was posting about what a great read it was, so I bought it, but it has sat on my kindle. I finally picked it up, and it's very fun. Pinky is a fun and relatable heroine, and, I mean, Trucker just SOUNDS hot. I'm about 50% of the way through, and I have a feeling I'll be finishing it before bed tonight. I do a lot of my reading in the dark since my husband goes to bed about an hour earlier than I do, so fun romances on my kindle are my savior. I hope you are having a fun weekend. It's still cold and generally miserable here, so a great time to cozy up with a book/ beta read/ manuscript! Love always, Lucy This is just a quick update as to what I've been doing.
I'm about 5k away from finishing Only You and I'm finally hitting a pretty good stride. I'm doing a few beta reads in different subgenres of romance. I read the first chapter of my friend's new book and it's amazing. I'm reading The Best Bad Things for my book club. I'm very happy with the direction Only You is taking this time around, and firmly believe I should never work on two projects during Nano again. I'm planning on finishing Only You in the next ten days, and then I will be onto Dance for You's beta edits, followed by Waiting for You's big edits. I'm going to Vegas for my younger sister's bachelorette party, so I am looking forward to shocking whoever is sitting next to me while I edit steamy scenes ;) I'll do an "official" cover release for And Then It Was You the last week of February, though if you have explored this site, you've probably already found it. Isn't it gorgeous?!? I can't wait to see what the rest in the series will look like! I plan to be back in the writing saddle around March 1st to speedily write/edit/review Let Freedom Ring for a June release. It's the first book in the Happy Holidays series! They will be a collection of loosely connected stories each centering around a different holiday in a different part of the United States. Let Freedom Ring is coming out before Only You, but I really wanted to write the Falling for You series straight through. So that's my next couple months! As a planner, I have a detailed schedule for seriously the next eighteen months, but that is liable to change. Especially since I got an idea for a new series this week that has been nagging me like crazy! It really wants to be written. I hope February is treating you well. Yesterday it was 45 here and most of the 18+ inches of snow melted, but we have more on the way! My five year old is very impatient for spring, especially since the groundhog predicted an early one. Happy reading! Love always, Lucy |
